Fight for Your Life

(Song written by me. link)

There are times when you feel something. Something special. You know especially when you are quoted saying, “I haven’t felt like this in a long time.” Chances are we’ve all felt like it, a lot more recently than we say, we just don’t remember. Anyhow, trying to instill logic into a scenario involving feelings seems moot, as feelings are not easily pushed aside for a logical explanation.

In life, we should always fight for what our hearts tell us. Sometimes that doesn’t fall into the restraints of right and wrong. To give up is to acknowledge the fear of the unknown, and not to challenge yourself. Not to push yourself to new experiences and give yourself a jolt of rejuvenation in life. To keep ourselves in the dark and dusky crevices of the comfortable is to victimize ourselves of the beauty of life. It’s not right, in any sense of the word.

Your life is yours. At the end of the day, you have to live with yourself. People come and go, but you will always be there for you. What are you going to say to yourself about that thing you wanted to do, but never did because you were afraid of the consequences? In 10 years, you’ll look back and say, “What if?” Why subject yourself to the “what if’s” in life, when you can seek it out and find out at that time?

With all the over stimulation of today’s society, what we want may seem to be what’s just in front of us. That beautiful someone across the street. They’re out of my league. I don’t deserve them. Well how do you know unless you go over and say hello? A man and a woman are meant to be together. Looks are a means of initial attraction. They’re only out of your league because you tell yourself that. Just do what your ancestors did, and go after what you want.

What about that solemn video game that makes us feel good? These video games are just extensions of real life for the lazy. Not to be hypocritical, as I enjoy a video game once in a while. But only for the enjoyment of life’s actual limitation. I can’t fly, for I don’t have wings. I can’t shoot people without subjecting myself to the conformity of a military system. In a legal sense, anyway. What we do from the comforts of our own home is adventure out into a world created for us, when the real world is waiting to be challenged by you.

For once in my life, I know exactly what it is I want. I see future with it. And yet, it’s an arm’s length away, and only getting farther. But I won’t stop fighting. I won’t stop fighting for something that I feel, believe, and know, is what I want. I won’t give up.

Well, maybe I’ll give up for the duration of the Netherlands vs. Cameroon game. Yea, you can wait. Where’s my vuvuzela…

Awaken Morality

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

In the wake of the Exxon Valdez oil spill, governments around the world vowed to reduce emissions for an ultimate goal of making the consumption of oil extinct. And although some of the large companies that rely primarily on the use of fossil fuels for their products attempted to move in the right direction, they were crushed by the unknown, their efforts stomped on, and forced to continue their route of usage in the all-time highs. Though in comparison to existence in 1989, society has slowly but surely moved in the right direction of seeking out alternate means. However the usages of these alternate fuels have been nothing more than an annoying buzz in the corner the room.

Now in 2010, with the disaster of the Deepwater Horizon, our governments around the world are vowing to end the need of fossil fuels, and to make alternatives a reality in everyday life.

The need for fuel and energy has been an ongoing battle among money-hungry companies for years. Each employee blaming the responsibility on one person higher, that if the company went down then their lives would end, the need for a solid paycheck to support their families and themselves always a constant problem. When does it become a moral issue over a living issue? Does it ever? I know that if the company I worked for was doing something I found was challenging my moral standings, I would have no problem shifting blame around so as to make myself feel comfortable staying.

So what is the issue here? Why are these large oil companies still making billions of dollars every day (the losses due to the Deepwater Horizon disaster are but shavings off the wheel of cheese) when all our governments and politicians preach the fall of fossil fuels to the rising alternatives?

Fossil Fuel consumption has been a way of life for almost a century. There is way too much money to be made in it. The final question is: When will we finally realize the error of using damaging energy sources and make that change? Will morality ever triumph over money? When there is money being lost, there is someone willing to forget their morals.

What a life we live. I’m going back to my Meditation for Dummies.
